Book Title: The Poison Season Book Author: Mara Rutherford Review: The Poison Season is a story of breaking tradition, of kind hearts, and of love. Leelo is a child of Endla, which means magic flows in her veins and through her voice. Not every child born on Endla has this gift though. Leelo's younger brother does not possess magic and therefore must be sent away to the land of the outsiders. Devastated by the loss of her beloved brother Leelo starts questioning why her family and so many others must be torn apart as a sacrifice to the forest that protects them. Her wariness furthers when she saves an outsider and learns that he is nothing like what she was told they were supposed to be. Mara Rutherford did an amazing job creating this book. After reading I could clearly see the forest and its heartbeat as Leelo could. I felt every feeling of heartache, guilt, confusion, and love that she did. The way that Rutherford was able to pull me into the story was beyond words....
